DYRSL Funds Wig Library at Northern Beaches Hospital.

Recently, the Cancer Council NSW approached Dee Why RSL for assistance in establishing an innovative Wig Library at the Oncology and Infusion Centre at our local Northern Beaches Hospital. Committed to supporting local residents suffering from cancer, at present, the Centre sees over 60 patients each week.

These numbers are striking.

We have all been affected by cancer in some way – whether it be personally, through friends, family or even the media – and the Wig Library initiative deeply moved the Board and Executive Management Team. We were very honoured to be able to assist in some small way and through the support of our members, were able to donate $25,000 towards this initiative.

Unveiled to the community on Monday 7 June 2021, the Wig Library provides local patients suffering hair loss due to the nature of cancer treatment with wigs in contemporary colours and styles. Staffed by humble and friendly volunteers, patients receive professional wig fittings and are also able to receive head coverings, hats, turbans, scarves and head wraps.
