A warm and welcoming presence, Craig has been delighting our visitors with his friendly and impeccable service for two decades, making him an integral part of the Bistro and Battery House experience.

As Craig celebrates his 20 years of employment, we took some time to take a look at his journey. Read on to find out a little more about Craig and his time with us.

What do you enjoy about working at the RSL?

Working front of house and getting to know people.

What is something exciting happening in your life right now?

Planning a fishing trip to Townsville in a couple of months.

Describe ‘a day in the life’ working at DYRSL in your current position.

I make sure everything runs smoothly, taking pride in ensuring everything is in place. All while being courteous to our customers and building connections.

What is a fond/funny/stand-out memory of your time here.

A very charismatic old digger named Aki (sadly passed away) making his way to the city ANZAC march in a courtesy cab, holding a can of beer out the window with a big smile on his face.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

I’d love to travel around Australia to discover new places in our own backyard.

 What is the weirdest fact you know?

You can’t lick your elbow.

 How would your friends describe you?

Loyal, generous, and a man of integrity. Happy-go-lucky.

 Favourite book / movie?

The Shogun Trilogy.

Favourite Drink?

Single Malt Whiskey.

Tell us something we don’t know about you…

I used to be a competitive ballroom dancer for four years in my younger days.

What is your go-to meal here?

Crispy Skin Chicken with Fried Rice from Tastes of Asia.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

Gardening and fishing.

 What are some of your personal goals this year?

To get a driver’s license after decades without one and get back into my artwork.

 As a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?

An artist.

If you were to give your younger self some advice, what would it be?

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

 What do you love doing the most in your work?

I love interacting with customers and getting to know them. Making their experience enjoyable and memorable is very rewarding.

Who is your hero?

My dad.

Do you collect anything / have any strange hobbies?

I don’t collect anything, but I do enjoy growing a variety of unusual plants and flowers.
