Cheers to Celebrating 5 Years Jono.

Jonathan, a.k.a. Jono, is a true sports enthusiast, a master of jokes, and the life of the party in our vibrant Gaming Room. If you’ve visited DYRSL in the past five years, you’ve undoubtedly encountered his infectious, mischievous smile.

As we celebrate Jono’s five years with us, we sat down for a brief interview to delve into his experiences and get to know him better. Let’s explore Jono’s journey with us and learn more about the man behind the smile.

What do you enjoy about working at the RSL?

The endless friendships built throughout the years, as well as the countless conversations and interactions with customers.

What is something exciting happening in your life right now?

I leave on the 10th of June this year to Europe, at this point there is no return flight, it will be an exciting adventure and the first big holiday since starting working here 5 years ago.

Describe ‘a day in the life’ working at DYRSL in your current position.

I start my day by greeting everyone and catching up with colleagues, some of whom affectionately call me Hayden (from my brother). Then, I brew a perfect Ice Long Black to kickstart my day. Throughout the day, I assist patrons, manage the gaming floor, and ensure everything runs smoothly. It’s a busy but rewarding role, filled with interactions with both staff and patrons.

What is a fond/funny/stand-out memory of your time here.

There are too many to choose from, but I think one that stands out the most would just be working during covid, the changes in how we worked and how everything ran was something never seen before.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

It would have to be New York, visited there many years ago and love the place, hopefully won’t be too long before I am back there.

What is the weirdest fact you know?

One of the weirdest facts I know is that there’s a species of jellyfish called Turritopsis dohrnii, also known as the “immortal jellyfish,” which has the remarkable ability to revert back to its juvenile form after reaching maturity, essentially allowing it to live forever in a continuous cycle of rejuvenation.

How would your friends describe you?

I’d say my friends would describe me as the life of the party a lot of fun to be around. It always helps when you have the Body of Dwayne Johnson and the Looks of Ryan Gosling.

Favourite book/movie?

Favourite movie would have to be Love Actually.

Favourite Drink?

It would have to be a lovely, brewed Ice Long Black in the morning, followed by some vodka pineapples by night.

Tell us something we don’t know about you…

I can’t ride a bike.

What is your go-to meal here?

Medium scotch fillet steak, Chips, salad, and pepper sauce from Bistro.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

Hobbies outside of work would be my love for the beach and sports, daily hobbies would be going down to the beach grabbing a coffee and watching endless hours of American sports.

What are some of your personal goals this year?

Look into attending university or a degree of some sort, try to really look into what my long-term career is.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?

Professional baseball Player.

If you were to give your younger self some advice, what would it be?

You win some you lose most, and nothing lasts forever.

Who is your hero?

I’d have to say my brother Hayden, I get called him enough so I am a hero myself I must say.

Do you collect anything / have any strange hobbies?

I collect American sports memorabilia and Sports cards.
