If you’re looking to soak up some Vitamin D or love a good swim in the ocean then Dee Why beach is the perfect outing destination for you.
Not a fan of blustery breezes? The beach’s southern headland protects the beach from southerly winds making it the perfect destination for local surfers.
Looking for any excuse to snap a great photo for your Instagram? Check out the Dee Why lagoon. Complete a five kilometer walk along the beach to Long Reef Headland. From the Headland, you can enjoy beautiful views of the ocean. If you’re lucky, you may even spot whales and dolphins from the headland.
For all the fitness lovers out there, you’ll love this coastal stroll. The walk begins at Dee Why’s Surf Club, goes through the Dee Why Lagoon, passes Long Reef Beach and finishes at the Long Reef headland.
The 5 km walk requires a fair bit of sand/beach walking and takes about 60 minutes to complete, so make sure to bring a hat, sunscreen and sunnies to protect yourself from the rays.
Does the thought of fresh flowers make you smile? If it does, then you’ll want to check out the Stony Range Botanic Gardens in Dee Why. The gardens are covered with native plants and floral displays – perfect for a picnic or a short stroll.
Walking around the main garden circuit only takes about 20 minutes to complete and also includes sensory tracking point to plants you can touch, taste, smell, and look at.

#18 Walter Gors Park
Want to know the definition of joy? Take your kids to a water park on a hot day.
Sit on the grass while enjoying a hearty picnic and let your kids run wild through the water gardens. The park is equipped with green space (perfect for picnics and a game of frisbee), outdoor cooking facilities, toilets, a large playground and plenty of room to sit and relax.
#19 Dee Why Park
Love outdoor sports? Dee Why park is the perfect, hang out spot anytime of the year.
Grab a soccer ball or cricket set, call your your mates and head over to Dee Why park. The park is equipped with a full soccer and cricket field as well as bike paths, with a bus stop only 100m from the park.
Have a little brother sister or just a young one you need to entertain for a few hours? We suggest taking them to Michaela Howie playground. It’s a must for all little ones.
The popular playground is fully fenced and has plenty of shade (but you’ll still need to slip, slop and slap). The play area is equipped with slides, climbing gear, swing-set and also has a little shop.
While the kids are being entertained, you can enjoy a relaxing picnic under the trees or at the picnic tables overlooking Dee Why beach.
The Crescent Reserve is another kid-friendly park option. The park contains a small playground, enclosed park and small playground. Perfect for those wanting to keep a close eye on the little ones.
Don’t own a car? Not a problem, the park is also only 100 m away from a bus stop making it simple to get to. Saturday morning boredom – cured.
If you’re planning a day to visit the Dee Why Lagoon with little ones then make sure to stop over at James Meehan Reserve. The park contains an enclosed playground, a picnic area and toilets. So why not pack the picnic basket and make a day outing? There are even barbeques available for use so take some snags and get cooking!
#23 Dee Why Library

What if I said you can travel anywhere you wanted for free? No petrol and no effort needed. If this sounds like you then head over to Dee Why Library, situated in the heart of Dee Why. The library has free wifi and a huge collection of books, music and DVDs. Pick your fave tale, find a comfy spot to sink into and travel to another universe.
Do you love the feeling of fresh air on your face as your feet hit the pavements? If yes then head for Dee Why’s running trails. There are different runs to suit all ages and abilities. The runs range from 1.2 km (Long reef headland climb) to even 30 km (Dee Why Dash 30K).
Not a runner but still love the outdoors? Good news for you, there are no restrictions on whether you run or walk the track so grab your shoes and hit the tracks.
Embrace your inner dancer and join a pilates or barre fitness class. The 45-minute classes focus on posture, core and muscle strength.
