Let’s Do Something!

Let’s Do Something is a donations drive in preparation for this year’s ‘Do Something Day,’ a campaign about giving back to others. It’s a celebration that recognises and encourages the extraordinary contributions made by everyday Australians and is an annual campaign Dee Why RSL is proud to be part of.

During the month of June we are asking for your donations to assist one of our supported community organisations – local charity Street Mission ready for Do Something Day on 25 July.

Street Mission operates two cafes for the homeless on the northern beaches: Dee Why on Wednesday nights and Balgowlah on Saturday nights. Many of Street Mission’s clients have medical issues or disabilities and life is tough for them; many are lonely, living in their cars or just down on their luck. Some clients have been attending for many years.

The cafes provide not only a nutritious meal and a supportive, caring atmosphere, they also provide basic needs like warm blankets and take-home food items. They estimate they serve over 300 meals each month using a 100% volunteer workforce.

How can you help?

During the entire month of June we are asking you to donate the following items to assist Street Mission:

  • Warm blankets
  • can of food (especially  salmon, tuna, soups, baked beans, spaghetti)

Items can be dropped to Lower Reception during Club opening hours, and your items will be delivered directly to Street Mission at the end of the drive.

Your support is greatly appreciated and will assist others in urgent need.
