Congratulations on 5 years Matt.

Matt has been an essential and inspiring presence in our club’s kitchens, bringing with him years of experience, creativity, and a strong sense of structure that benefits everyone. Since joining us in 2020, he has proven to be an invaluable member of our food production team, not long before proudly stepping into the role of Sous-Chef.

As we celebrate this milestone, we want to take a moment to highlight Matt’s outstanding contributions. Read on to discover more about his journey.

What do you enjoy about working at DYRSL?

I enjoy that the days are never the same. Whether it be working in different outlets or at different points in the day, I like the variety we have to offer.

Describe ‘a day in the life’ working at DYRSL in your current position.

My usual day involves overseeing the club’s different kitchens and their staff. Working in kitchen’s are fast paced so it is important that I am there to try and fix any challenges that arise.

What is a fond/funny/stand-out memory of your time here.

I have fond memories of opening Flame back in 2022. Another stand out memory was winning the Perfect Plate Award in 2023.

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

The Maldives. It has always been on my bucket list.

What is the weirdest fact you know?

Octopuses have 3 hearts.

How would your friends describe you?

I think my friends would say that I like to have fun when I am doing the things I love. I also think they would call me honest and kind.

Favourite book / movie?

I love the movie Pearl Harbour – in fact, I really enjoy any books or movies that are war related.

Favourite Drink?

Coke… Even though it’s bad for me.

Tell us something we don’t know about you…

I’m not a strong swimmer, even though I live by the beach.

What is your go-to meal here?

Since I am around food all day, I don’t really eat full meals. That being said, you can’t go wrong with a chicken toasty from Aqua.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

I used to cycle a lot. I have been meaning to get back on the bike sometime this year.

What are some of your personal goals this year?

Getting on the property ladder, even if it’s not in Sydney.

If you were to give your younger self some advice, what would it be?

I would tell myself to never stop learning. I think I would also tell myself to always stay true to my values and opinions.

Who is your hero?

My grandad was my hero, always spent a lot of my time with him as a child. I learnt so much from being around him.
