2020 School Scholarship Winners

Dee Why RSL awards ten local students with $20,000 in scholarships.

Once again, the Dee Why RSL School Scholarship Program has delivered a total of $20,000 in scholarships to assist students in achieving their utmost potential whilst completing the Higher School Certificate.

The volume and quality of this year’s applications were incredibly high, making it extremely difficult for the Dee Why RSL Board Panel, all retired school teachers, to award only 10 students. Students were given the opportunity to be assessed on their excellent academic performance and/or financial need, with this selection remaining confidential.

Dee Why RSL awards ten local students with $20,000 in scholarships On Tuesday 3 December 2019, the Dee Why RSL Board and Executive Management team hosted a function to present each student with a $2,000 cheque, a certificate for their portfolio, and to take the opportunity to congratulate the students in person. The room was swelling with pride as the excited students were supported by their family and carers.

“It was an honour and a privilege to present certificates and cheques to the successful students. The way in which they addressed the selection criteria, together with their heartfelt references to the importance of family during the HSC year made their applications a pleasure to read,” said President of Dee Why RSL Graeme Liddell.

“Education is a very expensive business and Dee Why RSL is proud to provide funding to assist these wonderful young people to work towards their 2020 HSC year.”

Scholarships provide opportunities to students who exhibit academic excellence and to students who demonstrate they have the drive and determination to achieve academically despite financial constraints, along with a passion or proven contribution to the community, and involvement in extracurricular activities.

The scholarship program is part of the Club’s longstanding Community Support Program. This year, Dee Why RSL will support over 100 local community groups with more than $2,000,000 in cash and in-kind support. These groups include high needs charities, as well as organisations that support disabilities, vulnerable children, mental health, veterans, sporting, cultural, social clubs and education.

This year’s successful Scholarship recipients are:

  • Bianca Aiello and Alexandra Carroll – NBSC Mackellar Girls Campus
  • Mienke Breebaart – Mater Maria Catholic College
  • Grace Fisher, Chloe Leung, Chloe Martin and Kate McLoughlin – Manly Selective Campus
  • Dillon Pittar and Talani Tombs – NBSC Freshwater Senior Campus
