Why is Dee Why RSL undergoing a redevelopment

In 2017, Dee Why RSL surveyed a large proportion of members and they said loud and clear what they want is more food and beverage options, more live music and more car parking.

We value our customers and their feedback, which is why we are embarking on the largest redevelopment project in the Club’s 70-year history.

This is an evolution of our history – a respectful change, and we look forward to keeping you updated throughout.

Is Flame Lounge & Dining closing forever?

No! The beloved Flame restaurant is not closing forever. It is temporarily closed and will re-open in a new located in the Club in late 2020.

What new offerings will the development provide?

The new development will provide multiple eateries and bar areas, additional live music and entertainment areas, a state of the art sports bar, over 200 additional car spaces and a new welcoming entrance and foyer.

Will you still have live music seven nights a week?

We have been working through alternative options for a temporary relocation of this beloved area during the renovation period and have been unable to identify a suitable space that will accommodate the piano and won’t interfere with any existing events.

There will be live music in Match Bar on Friday and Saturday evenings from 9 August 2019.

We understand that this news will be cause for disappointment but can assure you that the new live music area that is to be constructed will be well worth the wait!

What is the duration of the project?

The approximate completion date is late 2020.

What are construction hours?

Construction hours will be 7.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday, 8.00am – 1.00pm Saturday.

As with any construction site, there is likely to be some disruption, but we’ll be doing everything we can to make sure it does not interfere with your experience inside Dee Why RSL.

How will customer parking be affected during the construction period?

The construction work will be generally contained to the Southern car park, which means that from the week commencing Monday 20 August, the majority of this car park will no longer be available for use.

One section of the Southern car park will remain open:

  • Approximately 20 spaces on the upper level
  • Approximately 20 spaces on the lower level
    • This area is exclusive to parents of the Kindy from 7.00am – 6.30pm weekdays

The Northern car park will remain open to Club members, guests and customers of ZONE Bowling.

Will we see any changes to general Club operation or availability during construction?

The redevelopment will require the demolition of fire and egress stairs, meaning that capacity of guests on level 3 will be reduced.

This will limit the amount of functions that we can hold at the one time. This means that availability of the function and event spaces will be tighter during the construction period.

Otherwise, it’s business as usual at Dee Why RSL. We will continue providing a great range of food and beverage options, a great promotional calendar, and a stellar line-up of the best local and international acts and complimentary live music.

Will you still have the shuttle bus?

Absolutely! In fact, we’re actually looking to extend the hours and route of the door-to-door shuttle bus to accommodate more people. We’ll be sure to let you know through our website and other member communications, once this is confirmed.

Will ClubGRANTS continue throughout the redevelopment?

Absolutely yes! We are very pleased to announce that in the coming year we will provide more than $2 million in cash and in-kind support to over 100 community organisations. This support includes continuing significant funding towards the Veteran’s Centre – Sydney Northern Beaches, located on level 4 of the Club. Dee Why RSL Club is the major partner of the Centre and is deeply committed to supporting veterans on the Northern Beaches and beyond. The Board and executive team have never forgotten the Club’s roots, assisting military veterans, which has resulted in providing more than $1 million worth of support to the Centre since its inception in 2015.

Is it true that your Bistro and Asian outlets will be run by a third party once your redevelopment has been completed?

This is very much incorrect! In fact, all of our outlets, new and existing, will continue to be run by Dee Why RSL.

Why are there restrictions on how many people there can be on level 3 of the club when the redevelopment isn’t happening on that level?

The redevelopment will require demolition of fire and egress stairs, meaning that capacity of guests on level 3 of the Club will be reduced during the construction period. The availability of the function and event spaces will be tighter as a result, though this will not affect the quality or number of local, national and international artists hosted by the Club.

How can I find out more?
