Congratulations on 20 years. Well done Justine.

If you’ve visited DYRSL within the last 20 years, chances are you’ve encountered Justine. A joyful and lovely character, Justine is the first point of contact for anyone entering DYRSL and has dedicated 20 years to greeting our guests at our reception.

As Justine celebrates her 20 years of employment, we took some time to take a look at her journey. Read on to find out a little more about Justine and her time with us.

What in particular do you enjoy about working at DYRSL?

I love the customers, especially the regulars we get to know so well and the lovely staff I work with.

Describe ‘a day in the life’ working at DYRSL in your current position.

Greeting the customers, answering enquiries, joining new members, selling show tickets, answering the phones just to name a few things.

What is a fond/funny/stand-out memory of your time here?

I always look forward to the staff Christmas parties. It’s so great to see all the staff get together and we always have so much fun!

How has DYRSL changed over the five years?

Well, it has almost doubled in size since 2002! The recent renovations are just spectacular. We are the premier club on the Northern Beaches.

What do you love doing the most in your work?

Assisting in any way I can to ensure our members and guest have the best possible experience while spending time at DYRSL and want to continue to visit us (and bring their friends!).

What is something exciting happening in your life right now?

I have recently became a great aunty! My nephew and his fiancé just had a baby boy called Henry in early August.

How would your friends describe you?

Easy going, loves a good time, loyal and willing to help out anyone.

What are some of your personal goals this year?

The simple things in life. Stress free living and just to continue to watch my two girls succeed in their lives.

If you could have one super-power, what would it be?

To read minds.

What is the weirdest fact you know?

Pope Francis used to be a nightclub bouncer!

What is you favourite book/movie?

My favourite book is ‘A million little pieces’ by James Frey and my favourite movie is ‘Shawshank Redemption’.

What is your favourite drink?

A vodka with lemonade or a nice cold beer.

Tell us something we don’t know about you.

I was born with a hole in my heart and had major heart surgery when I was 5.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

I love walking my dog Franklin around Narrabeen Lakes or Dee Why Beach, listening to music, or just catching up with friends and family.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?

A Zoo Keeper.

If you were to give your younger self some advice, what would it be?

Be more ambitious with my career and to travel more while still being young.

What is your go-to meal here?

Roast pork baked dinner from Bistro… it’s always cooked perfectly, I love it!
