What do you enjoy about working at the RSL?
Serving customers and talking to the elder patrons, making everyone feel welcome. As well as working with staff.
Could you share your earliest memories or experiences when you joined the club 25 years ago?
I came from Palm Beach RSL club where I worked for 16 and a half years and then the leagues club to the DYRSL. Soane Nickson and Omar were there to train me and show me the ropes and I immediately felt so welcome in the club.
How have you seen the RSL club evolve and change over the years? Are there any particular changes or developments that stand out to you?
It was very different to the way the club is now, the gaming machines had even had handles. Definitely the biggest changes have come from the redevelopment of Battery House and the new Courtyard area.
What is a fond/funny/stand-out memory of your time here.
Going to try Flame for the first time with the team for our tasting night.
What have been some of your biggest achievements whilst working at the club?
Being a life member at Collaroy Surf Life saving Club and more recently taking on training the Manly Surf Life saving Club March Past Team.
If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?
Thailand, one of the islands or Phuket as it is so beautiful and nice and warm!
Favourite Drink?
A refreshing pint of Coopers Pale Ale from Battery House.
What is favourite meal here?
I love all things seafood; my favourite is the Battery House Calamari.
If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would it be?
Be Kind and friendly to everyone, take the extra time to have a chat to people and avoid conflict – and you’ll be happy.
Have you noticed any interesting trends or changes in the types of food or drink items that over the years?
The Courtyard pizza is definitely a popular choice!
Favourite past time?
I enjoy spending time and volunteering at Collaroy SLSC where I am a life member. All of my family is also involved and last year we completed a swim relay together and won
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?
I have always been interested in trains and thought I might have wanted to be a train driver.
What do you love doing the most in your work?
The people are absolutely amazing.
