What do you enjoy about working at DYRSL?

Coming to work here always feels like a big family gathering. The staff are wonderful, and the customers are great too.

What is something exciting happening in your life right now?

I’m looking forward to an upcoming trip to China and Japan where I’ve booked a land and cruise deal.

Describe ‘a day in the life’ working at DYRSL in your current position.

Working in the bar in Aqua is a blessing. I start by setting up the bar to ensure everything is in order and enjoy catching up with regular customers like old friends. It’s always a joy helping my colleagues as well.

What is a fond/funny/stand-out memory of your time here.

One evening at Flame (years ago), I was serving a birthday cake bought specially from the Guylian Chocolate Store. Unfortunately, I dropped the cake! I couldn’t find a hole big enough to crawl into, it was so embarrassing!

If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would you go and why?

I’d love to complete my visits to the Grand Slam tennis venues. I’ve been to the Australian Open in Melbourne and the US Open at Flushing Meadows. Next on my list are Wimbledon and Roland Garros for my next European trip.

What is the weirdest fact you know?

Australia is actually wider than the moon.

How would your friends describe you?

Happy-go-lucky and carefree.

Favourite book / movie?

The James Bond 007 series. I was hooked from the first Bond movie, Dr. No, in 1962 when I was just seven years old.

Favourite Drink?

Scotch on the rocks.

Tell us something we don’t know about you…

I can speak English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.

What is your go-to meal here?

The Crumbed Lamb Cutlets from Bistro.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?

I play tennis once or twice a week in a social comp I’ve been part of for the last 35 years. Each session lasts about three hours.

What are some of your personal goals this year?

To travel to Asia and Europe.

As a kid, what did you want to be when you grow up?

I aspired to play for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, but as I grew older, I realised I wasn’t quite good enough!

If you were to give your younger self some advice, what would it be?

Spend money on buying properties rather than spending money on cars.

What do you love doing the most in your work?

Engaging with customers, catering to their needs, and sharing my experience with younger staff.

Who is your hero?

Superman.

Do you collect anything / have any strange hobbies?

I’ve been collecting plastic LPs since my teenage years.
